Volunteer Spotlight: Eva Greco

The 25 Project is so grateful for all our volunteers who help make the mission of giving hope and healing to vulnerable children around the world possible. This month, we applaud Eva Greco for all her help with our sponsorship program. Here’s a little more about Eva and how she became involved in the ministry of the 25 Project:

How did you first get involved with the 25 Project?

I first heard of the 25 Project when my church announced a mission expedition to the Dominican Republic. I was especially interested in hearing more when I found out they were located here in McKinney, TX. I remember hearing their mission and vision statement and connecting immediately with the heart of the ministry. Without much discussion, my son Dominick and daughter Dee Dee and I made the decision to sign up for the July 2017 mission expedition! I could not have anticipated how much God would get a grip on our hearts through the incredible children we met in the DR.

With so many opportunities to volunteer, why did you decide to volunteer with the 25 Project?

It was unbelievably difficult returning home. The children had become our family, and our hearts longed to be with them. Before the expedition I had begun to view my life as meaningless. I knew I needed to “do something” here for the children. As I prayed and asked God what I could do He reminded me of how the 25 Project was located in my community.

I reached out  about volunteering in the office, outlining what skills I had to offer. I am not kidding when I say I would have scrubbed toilets – I didn’t care I just needed to “DO SOMETHING!” Thankfully, I am not scrubbing toilets, but I have been helping Sarah Teasdale in the area of sponsorship. It has been a year now since I began volunteering, and I love every minute of it.

So much more goes on behind the scenes than I ever thought! The children in the sponsorship program aren’t just numbers to the staff and sponsors – their faces and names are known, loved and prayed over! I am reminded of my favorite scripture in Isaiah – “I have called you by name; you are mine…” I am comforted in knowing God knows each of these children and longs to meet their every need!
