Villa Laura Village

Villa Laura is a village on the outskirts of Santo Domingo located in the area of Los Alcarrizos. Villages are generally divided into “Dominican” villages or “Haitian” villages. Villa Laura is a predominately Dominican village. Like many villages in the Dominican Republic, people often settle and build makeshift homes on land they do not own. Wealthy landowners will many times come and tear down homes for no apparent reason, other than as a reminder to the settlers that they do not own the land.

Villa Laura has its own “stores” which are really shacks found at the front of some of the homes where community members sell small goods. There is also a small church in the village. Villa Laura is located roughly two miles away from Batey Lechería, which is the other village where the 25 Project works and the location of our ministry center.
