Batey Lecheria Village

Batey Lecheria is a village on the outskirts of Santo Domingo located in the area of Los Alcarrizos. Villages are generally divided into “Dominican” villages or “Haitian” villages. Lecheria is a predominately Haitian village. Like many villages in the Dominican Republic, people often settle and build makeshift homes on land they do not own. Wealthy landowners will many times come and tear down homes for no apparent reason, other than as a reminder to the settlers that they do not own the land.

Lecheria has its own “stores” which are really shacks found at the front of some of the homes where community members sell small goods. There is also a small church in the village. Our ministry center is located here and hosts the ongoing food distribution, computer and sewing classes, tutoring, discipleship and worship services. Lecheria is located roughly two miles away from Villa Laura.
