Musa was born in 2006. His father does not know the exact date of his birth so we celebrate his birthday on January 1st. Musa lives in the very poor fishing village of Tombo. Tombo is located on the western coastline of Sierra Leone and is a major hub for fish trade and transport. The town is known for its deeply religious Islamic faith. Because of the poor conditions and the bodies of water that surround Tombo, diseases such as Malaria, Typhoid and Cholera run rampant.
Musa lives with his father who is a woodcutter. Years ago Musa's father became seriously ill and could not work or provide for the family. During that time, Musa's mother left his father and married another man. Even now, Musa's father is frequently ill, his condition is unknown. Because of this illness Musa's father cannot work on a consistent basis so he does not have the means to provide sufficient food for Musa or meet his other basic needs. Realizing the limitations of his father's ability to provide, Musa has found various jobs. He transports baskets full of fish to the park and market, helps transport loads around the Madina community and also fetches wood from the Tombo forest.
Musa was forced to stop school in Class V due to the lack of funds to pay for school tuition, uniform, school supplies and other school fees. He would love to return to school if given the opportunity. Musa would like to become an attorney in the future.
