Musa was born in 2007. His grandfather does not know the exact date of his birth so we celebrate his birthday on January 1st. Musa lives in the very poor fishing village of Tombo. Tombo is located on the western coastline of Sierra Leone and is a major hub for fish trade and transport. The town is known for its deeply religious Islamic faith. Because of the poor conditions and the bodies of water that surround Tombo, diseases such as Malaria, Typhoid and Cholera run rampant.
Musa lives with his grandfather who works as a stonebreaker. Musa parents separated some time ago and they show little or no concern for him. Since Musa's grandfather is elderly and not able to work much, he is not able to provide sufficient food or provide for Musa's other basic needs. Therefore, Musa has found work transporting fish baskets and other loads to the market, park or to people's homes. If Musa is not able to find this type of work, he goes in search of scrap metals to sale or helps his grandfather with stone breaking.
Musa was in school, but stopped in Class V due to the lack of funds to pay for school tuition, uniform, school supplies and other school fees. He wants to return to school if given the opportunity. Musa would like to become the president of Sierra Leone in the future.
