At 10 Abdulai lost his mother and stayed on with his father who lived in the interior of Sierra Leone. He was not going to school because his father was a subsistence farmer who took him along whenever he went to the farm. His aunt visited the village and begged Abdulai’s father to allow her to bring him to the city so that he could start schooling.
On their arrival in Waterloo his aunt did as promised. At age 14 Abdulai made friends who were a bad influence and he started sleeping out. This continued for a year and half. He did all kinds of odd jobs to make money; from gambling and many other anti-social activities like clubbing at night. He later decided to start school again as he wanted to change his life for the future. Abdulai continues to live with his aunt.
Abdulai is in Junior Senior Secondary III at Peninsula Academy.
