Abdulai was born in 2011. His mother does not know the exact date of his birth so we celebrate his birthday on January 1st. Abdulai lives in the very poor fishing village of Tombo. Tombo is located on the western coastline of Sierra Leone and is a major hub for fish trade and transport. The town is known for its deeply religious Islamic faith. Because of the poor conditions and the bodies of water that surround Tombo, diseases such as Malaria, Typhoid and Cholera run rampant.
Abdul lives with his mother who is a fish trader. Abdul's father died while his mother was still pregnant with him. Abdul's mother is not able to adequately provide food for Abdul or meet his other basic needs. Realizing this, Abdul goes to the streets in search of scrap metals in drainage ditches to trade in exchange for food.
Abdul has never been to school due to lack of funds to pay for school tuition, uniform, school supplies and other school fees. He would love to go to school if given the opportunity. Abdul would like to be an attorney in the future.
