Michael was born in 2009. His mother does not know the exact date of his birth so we celebrate his birthday on January 1st. Michael lives in the very poor fishing village of Tombo. Tombo is located on the western coastline and is a major hub for fish trade and transport. The town is known for its deeply religious Islamic faith. Because of the poor conditions and the bodies of water that surround Tombo, diseases such as Malaria, Typhoid and Cholera run rampant.
Michael lives with his mother. His mother works as a prostitute. Michael's parents separated years ago due to some serious family conflict. Since the separation, Michael's dad remarried and has not provided any care for him. Michael's mother cannot provide for his daily needs. Because his mother cannot provide for him, Michael found work cleaning and transporting fish from the Pepper Wharf to the park on a daily basis. Most of the time he does not request money for his work and instead asks for food or for clothing.
Michael had to stop attending school in Class III due to lack of funds to pay for school tuition, uniform, school supplies and other school fees. His desire is to return to school if given the opportunity. Michael would like to be a journalist one day.
