Momoh was born in 2005. His mother does not know the exact date of his birth so we celebrate his birthday on January 1st. Momoh lives in the very poor fishing village of Tombo. Tombo is located on the western coastline and is a major hub for fish trade and transport. The town is known for its deeply religious Islamic faith. Because of the poor conditions and the bodies of water that surround Tombo, diseases such as Malaria, Typhoid and Cholera run rampant.
Momoh lives with his mother and stepfather. His mother is a fish trader and his stepfather depends on his mother for survival. Sadly, Momoh never had the opportunity to meet his father because his father passed away while his mother was still pregnant with him.
Realizing that his mother is not able to meet even his basic needs, Momoh found work organizing fish to be dried in a fish smoke shack (Banda) and fetching vines from the Tombo forest for selling.
Momoh stopped his schooling in Class V due to lack of funds to pay for school tuition, uniform, school supplies and other school fees. His great desire is to return to school if given the opportunity. Momoh would like to become a doctor one day.
