Osman lives in the very poor fishing village of Tombo. Tombo is located on the western coastline and is a major hub for fish trade and transport. The town is known for its deeply religious Islamic faith. Because of the poor conditions and the bodies of water that surround Tombo, diseases such as Malaria, Typhoid and Cholera run rampant.
Osman lives with his grandmother who is a woodcutter. His mother died ten years ago when he was only two years old. When his mother passed away, his father abandoned the family leaving all of the responsibility of caring for the children to Osman's grandmother.
Since his grandmother can't sufficiently provide even for Osman's basic needs, Osman finds work by fetching wood in the Tombo Forest. At times he also has found work helping other woodcutters to sell their wood on a commercial basis.
Osman has never been to school due to lack of funds to pay for tuition, uniform, school supplies and other school fees. His desire is to be able to go to school. Osman would like to be a doctor in the future.
