Zainab lives with her grandmother. Her grandmother is a businesswoman and sells charcoal to try to sustain the family.
Zainab’s mother died when she was only five years old. Her father subsequently moved to the city to make money as an Okada driver. Okada drivers drive motorbikes for public transport. Zainab’s father then left her in the care of her grandmother.
Her grandmother cannot adequately provide food and the basic needs for Zainab. She therefore engages in fetching water for other people around Waterloo in exchange for food and clothes.
Zainab is one of the first two girls in our girl’s ministry and just recently started school for the first time. She is in Class 1. Zainab would like to be a teacher one day.
