Francis lives in Batey Lechería in the Dominican Republic. Batey is the Haitian word for village. The older generations in Batey Lechería are Haitian.
Life for Haitians in the Dominican is difficult. Unless they have sufficient funds to start their own business, which most do not, they are passed over for work because of their nationality. Dominicans prefer to hire their own countrymen.
Francis lives with his father, mother, and 4 siblings, Anderson 14, Esteban 9, Esther 5 and Benjamin 2. His father works as a farmer and also picks stones at the river for a living.
Currently, Francis attends the public school and is in 2nd grade. His favorite color is blue and he hopes to be a doctor in the future.
