Sherlandi was born in 2006 and lives in Batey Lechería in the Dominican Republic. Batey is the Haitian word for village. The older generations in Batey Lechería are Haitian. Life for Haitians in the Dominican is difficult. Unless they have sufficient funds to start their own business, which most do not, they are passed over for work because of their nationality. Dominicans prefer to hire their own countrymen.
Sherlandi lives with her mom and siblings, Laura who is six and Jeison who is four years. Her father passed away in 2017 in a motorcycle accident. Sherlandi's mother sells groceries on the street to provide the family. Her income, however, is simply not enough to adequately provide for the family.
Sherlandi attends public school and is in the 6th grade. Her favorite color is purple and she would like to become a doctor in the future.
