Ana Mercedes was born in 2010 and lives in Batey Lechería in the Dominican Republic. Batey is the Haitian word for village. The older generations in Batey Lechería are Haitian. Life for Haitians in the Dominican is difficult. Unless they have sufficient funds to start their own business, which most do not, they are passed over for work because of their nationality. Dominicans prefer to hire their own countrymen.
Ana Mercedes lives with her aunt whose husband works. Her mom gave her up in 2017 and her father abandoned the family when she was born.
She attends public school and is in 2nd grade. Ana's favorite color is white. She loves to draw and play with dolls. Ana would like to become a doctor in the future.
