Jensi was born in 2012 and lives in Batey Lechería in the Dominican Republic. Batey is the Haitian word for village. The older generations in Batey Lechería are Haitian.
Life for Haitians in the Dominican is difficult. Unless they have sufficient funds to start their own business, which most do not, they are passed over for work because of their nationality. Dominicans prefer to hire their own countrymen.
Jensi lives with both of his parents. His dad collects stones and loads them on big trucks for a living. Jensi's mother collects cherries at a cherry plantation. Their combined income is simply not enough to properly sustain the family.
Jensi attends public school and is in preschool. His favorite color is red and he does not yet know what he wants to become in the future.
