Rosany was born in 2008 and lives in Batey Lechería in the Dominican Republic. Batey is the Haitian word for village. The older generations in Batey Lechería are Haitian.
Life for Haitians in the Dominican is difficult. Unless they have sufficient funds to start their own business, which most do not, they are passed over for work because of their nationality. Dominicans prefer to hire their own countrymen.
Rosany lives with her mother and her nineteen-year-old sister. Her dad abandoned the family a few years ago. Rosany's mother works cleaning homes for a living. Her income is simply not enough to properly sustain the family.
Rosany attends public school and is in 5th grade. Her favorite color is pink and she would like to be an attorney in the future.
