Osvaldo was born in 2011 and lives in Batey Lechería in the Dominican Republic. Batey is the Haitian word for village. The older generations in Batey Lechería are Haitian.
Life for Haitians in the Dominican is difficult. Unless they have sufficient funds to start their own business, which most do not, they are passed over for work because of their nationality. Dominicans prefer to hire their own countrymen.
Osvaldo lives with both of his parents. They came to the Dominican seven years ago from Haiti. Osvaldo's father works at the river gathering stones and construction material to sustain the family. Osvaldo is the oldest of three children. Osvaldo's siblings are Miguel who is four and Angel who is six months old. The family rents a very humble house made of wood.
Osvaldo attends the public school and is in 1st grade. In addition to playing soccer, Osvaldo enjoys drawing and coloring. His favorite color is blue. Osvaldo would like to become a policeman in the future.
