Yubeli was born in 2010 and lives in Batey Lechería in the Dominican Republic. Batey is the Haitian word for village. The older generations in Batey Lechería are Haitian.
Life for Haitians in the Dominican is difficult. Unless they have sufficient funds to start their own business, which most do not, they are passed over for work because of their nationality. Dominicans prefer to hire their own countrymen.
Yubeli lives with his grandmother and siblings. In 2015, Yubeli's dad brought Yubeli and his siblings to live with his grandmother and then he returned to Haiti. After his return he became very ill and passed away in 2016. Yubeli's mother still lives in Haiti but suffers from mental health issues.
Yubeli's grandmother sells groceries to try and sustain the family. His siblings are Josefina who is 17 and Naika who is 12 years old. Naika is also in 25 Project's sponsorship program. The family lives in a very humble house made of wood.
Yubeli attends the public school and is in 2nd grade. His favorite color is white. Yubeli would like to become an engineer in the future.
