Eliseo lives in Batey Lechería in the Dominican Republic. Batey is the Haitian word for village. The older generations in Batey Lechería are Haitian.
Life for Haitians in the Dominican is difficult. Unless they have sufficient funds to start their own business, which most do not, they are passed over for work because of their nationality. Dominicans prefer to hire their own countrymen.
Eliseo lives with both parents and five siblings. His father works on the streets selling various items such as recycled plastic containers and his mother sells groceries from their home. Their income is simply not enough to sustain the entire family.
Eliseo's siblings are Maria age 13, Kesmi age 10 who is also in 25 Project's sponsorship program, Jafeili age six, Keisla age 4 and Elias age 2. The family lives in a two-room home.
Eliseo speaks Spanish and attends public school. He is currently in 4th grade and he enjoys mathematics class the best. In his free time, he likes to play soccer. When he grows up, Eliseo would like to be an engineer.
