Life for Haitians in the Dominican is difficult. Unless they have sufficient funds to start their own business, which most do not, they are passed over for work because of their nationality. Dominicans prefer to hire their own countrymen.
Isaias lives with his parents and three siblings. His father has a security job in the city to try to sustain the family. His mother works in a cherry plantation during the harvesting season. His siblings are Dareil who is 14 years old, Emanuel, age two and Rosalia who is eight months old.
Isaias speaks Spanish and attends preschool. During his free time he likes playing soccer. Isaias' favorite color is red. He would like to become a teacher in the future.
