Yesuany lives in Batey Lechería in the Dominican Republic. Batey is the Haitian word for village. The older generations in Batey Lechería are Haitian.
Life for Haitians in the Dominican is difficult. Unless they have sufficient funds to start their own business, which most do not, they are passed over for work because of their nationality. Dominicans prefer to hire their own countrymen.
Yesuany lives with her parents. She does not have siblings yet but her mother is expecting their second child. To try and sustain the family, her father works cleaning up construction sites by picking up leftover material.
Yesuany speaks Spanish and attends the public school that is two miles from her village. She is currently in 1st grade. During her free time she likes playing with dolls. Yesuany's favorite color is pink. In the future, Yesuany would like to be a doctor.
