Alexander lives in Batey Lechería in the Dominican Republic. Batey is the Haitian word for village. The older generations in Batey Lechería are Haitian.
Life for Haitians in the Dominican is difficult. Unless they have sufficient funds to start their own business, which most do not, they are passed over for work because of their nationality. Dominicans prefer to hire their own countrymen.
Alexander lives with both parents and has two siblings. His father sells fruit on the streets to try as best as he can to sustain his family. His mother tries to find work cleaning homes. Alexander's siblings are Valentina, age three and Rosemery, age six.
Alexander speaks Spanish and attends the public school two miles from his village. He is currently in 5th grade. During his free time he likes playing baseball. Alexander's favorite color is blue. He would like to become an engineer in the future.
