Enmanuel lives in Batey Lechería in the Dominican Republic. Batey is the Haitian word for village. The older generations in Batey Lechería are Haitian.
Life for Haitians in the Dominican is difficult. Unless they have sufficient funds to start their own business, which most do not, they are passed over for work because of their nationality. Dominicans prefer to hire their own countrymen.
Enmanuel's dad passed away in 2015. His mom sells various items to try and provide for the family.
Enmanuel speaks Spanish and he attends the public school which is two miles from the village. He is currently in 3rd grade. Enmanuel's favorite subject is math.
Enmanuel says he wants to become a Christian man. In his free time, Enmanuel likes to play soccer. In the future he would like to be an engineer.
