New ministry in Sierra Leone focuses on girls finding their value in Christ

August 7, 2018

A Dream in Motion In early 2017 – when we found ourselves with two very vulnerable girls in a community where we serve homeless boys – God planted a desire in us to begin a girls sponsorship program in Waterloo, Sierra Leone. Fast-forward to March 2018, and the first steps to establishing our girls program are in motion! For the past few months, we have been getting to know 25 girls in Waterloo, ages seven to nine, whose families are…

God’s Future Kingdom in South Asia

June 14, 2018

I encourage you to find where the Lord wants you to tell of His Great Love. You were made for this very purpose…  I have now been to South Asia twice with the 25 Project, and these expeditions have changed my life. God has shown me so much about who He is through them. God of Provision First, I have experienced how much our God is a God of provision. The first year I sent letters out to fundraise, I got very little…

Abu Koroma: A Life Renewed

May 1, 2018

Abu is a double orphan. He lost his mother when he was very young. When his father died in 2013, Abu was left homeless. He moved in with his uncle, but his uncle did not care for even his most basic needs. Abu decided to move to the streets of Waterloo to care for himself. The 25 Project’s ministry partner in Waterloo found Abu living on the streets of Waterloo, carrying loads and finding any work to make enough money to survive. Abu was hopeless, but God had already chosen…

Late in 2017, we saw God move in the hearts of so many of you who gave generously to help construct a ministry center in the Dominican Republic. Thank you for investing in this work and ministry! Meet Umaru Do you know someone who has never heard about Jesus? Umaru is in our sponsorship program and lives at Margaret’s home in Grafton, Sierra Leone. As with the others at Margaret’s home, Umaru is very special to me. He is a young man with a great mission and passion for the Lord. He has a special gift of sharing the Gospel. Earlier this year Umaru was in my group. One day he asked a great question, “What happens…

Tragedy in Sierra Leone

August 17, 2017

A Story by: Barbara Cross Today I hear the news from Sierra Leone….300 dead and 600 missing after mudslides from torrential rains. I know it’s the rainy season. I know and love these people. How many boys living on the street were swept away? Will we ever know how many lives were lost? But, I have a God that knows everyone. My God knew every hair on their head, and loved them. Until God Six years ago, Sierra Leone was…

The Impact of Sponsorship

August 3, 2017

My First Encounter with Abdulai A Story by Shara Johnson My 1-year anniversary of working on staff at the 25 Project was approaching. After 11 months, I finally found myself on a plane to Sierra Leone. It had been important for me to meet all the kids we serve and experience the country first-hand. It was even more important to meet the child I sponsor. Months prior, I was compelled to sponsor one of our boys in Waterloo. I kept coming…

The Joy of Sponsorship

June 22, 2017

The Joy of Sponsorship: An Article by Melissa Presley My heart is naturally bent toward encouragement. Focusing on the good stuff. As a mama of four, I can’t even begin to put into words all the ways that the Lord has blessed me through my children. The work He has done in them, and in me… good stuff. But I have learned that the best way to encourage is sometimes to go beyond the warm fuzzies. There are mamas and dads out there…

International Day of the African Child

June 16, 2017

Day of the African Child Since 1991, the Day of the African Child is celebrated on June 16th. On this day in 1976 a revolt occurred in Soweto, West Africa due to an order. The order mandated that Afrikaans, instead of their native language, would be the language used for instruction in schools. Many of the students that led the uprising also died on that day. In 1991, the Organization of African Unity, initiated Day of the African Child. The students who died…

Bringing Hope and Healing

June 1, 2017

“Taking him up by the right hand, he helped him up, and instantly the man’s feet and ankles became strong.” Acts 3:7 The Story I’m sitting on my back porch enjoying God’s beauty late this evening, on Memorial Day. Honestly, I began this journal post this morning. Sometimes I get a little distracted. However, God’s been working with me on this verse all day and even as I wrote He spoke in a new way. Isn’t He awesome in that way?…
